The Honda Fit GP5 is a mid-size hatchback available in Sri Lanka in a five-door form factor. Honda’s new hybrid hatchback has become the darling of Sri Lanka’s hatchback market, and the Honda Fit has found itself fast-becoming a hugely-popular family car.

The main rival for the Fit is the Toyota Aqua, but the more modern looking design and better interior, plus the slightly more affordable price factor has helped popularise the Fit in Sri Lanka.

Most newer (2013) models are available in the market under the Honda Fit badge, but some older (2007) models pop up under the Jazz nameplate.

The Honda Fit is the only mid-sized hatchback from Honda available in the Sri Lankan market, and is the only Honda Hybrid hatchback for sale in the island.

    Honda Fit Engine and Performance

The Fit is powered by a 1.5L, inline four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, driving the front wheels through a CVT (continuously variable transmission) or a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission system. The car delivers a combined 134bhp, through both the engine and the electric motor.

The 2013-model Fit’s forte is as an extremely fuel-efficient city car, suitable for small families. It can easily maintain expressway speeds without straining the engine, but don’t expect supermini-level performance from the small hatchback.

~//Design and Features of Honda Fit

The Fit’s looks stem from the new look face of Hondas, and are inspired by the performance CR-Z hybrid offering. Sweeping, aero-dynamic lines that line the sides of the car are unmistakable design cues of the marque’s new styling DNA, and the car, compared to the likes of Toyota Aqua, looks much more modern and cutting edge.

Almost all cars in the market are fully loaded units. Power steering, power windows, air conditioning and the automatic (CVT) transmission come as standard, as multi-function steering wheels. Driving aids such as ABS and traction control are available on all models, as are convenience features such as remote keyless entry and power door locks. The car uses a servo breaking system to re-harness the power and charge its batteries while breaking.

Most of the cars in Sri Lanka, in the new GP5 (2013 model) are from the fully-loaded F-grade trim level.

    ~//Standout Features of Honda Fit

The Honda Fit is a more economical alternative to the bigger Honda Civic, with its high fuel efficiency. It’s better-looking and more modern than Toyota’s alternative, the Aqua. Expect the fit to top more than 20km/l in city driving.

The mid-size form factor provides ample usable space for five adults to travel in comfort, with a large space in the boot. The car would be perfect for a small family of four, both for the morning school and office run, and for weekend trips out of the city.

~//Honda Fit Availability and Pricing in Sri Lanka

New models Honda Fit cars are widely available in Sri Lanka. Brand new, high-spec cars are in the market for around Rs. 4 million, but unregistered models can be found, with little mileage, starting from around Rs. 3 million onwards.

Older, first-generation cars, are still in the market, but not a lot of them can be found for sale. Expect a high-mileage Jazz-badged car to fetch around Rs. 2.2 million, for a mint-condition car with good service and maintenance history.

    ~//Overall Impression of Honda Fit

Honda’s Fit is the perfect mid-sized hybrid car that delivers exceptional fuel efficiency, and ample usable space for a family, with great looks combined with lots of gadgets to play around with.
