The Honda Vezel is the a new mid-size crossover from the Japanese auto giant that is now available in Sri Lanka, and is fast becoming the crossover of choice for many.

The new Vezel, pitched to be the replacement for the old HR-V, was first unveiled under the title Urban SUV Concept back in 2013. The Honda Vezel offers a modern, capable, fuel-efficient car in the form of an all-new cross-over form factor.

    Honda Vezel Engine and Performance

The Vezel is powered by the same 1.5L, inline four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine that drives the Honda Fit. The wheels are driven through a CVT (continuously variable transmission) or a 7-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission system. The car delivers a combined 130bhp, through both the engine and the electric motor.

This gives the Vezel enough power to match expressway speeds without heavy engine noise, but still return an estimated 18km/l through the hybrid drive.

~//Design and Features of Honda Vezel

The winner in the Vezel is its looks. The Vezel has stayed true to the original concept car, and it looks stunning, with lines that run the length of the car and gives it a sporty, yet somewhat rugged appearance.

The name Vezel stems from the word bezel, to indicate the facets of the cut gemstone, and this is exactly what the car looks like.

Almost all Vezels in the market are fully loaded units. Power steering, power windows, air conditioning and the automatic transmission come as standard. Multi-function steering wheels are also a standard fixture. Driving aids such as ABS and traction control are available on all models, as are convenience features such as remote keyless entry and power door locks.

Features also include reverse cameras, CD/DVD players and large (17”) alloy wheels on almost all models.

    ~//Standout Features of Honda Vezel

The Vezel is the newest crossover in the market, and it’s a market in which it stands almost alone. Toyota’s Harrier (Lexus RX-series) almost borders on the SUV-size, and Nissan’s Juke didn’t really take off in Sri Lanka.

While by no means a 4×4, nor even a soft-roader like the Toyota RAV4, the Vezel can be seen as a premium sedan with the high driving position that a small SUV offers. This, plus the high fuel efficienty delivered by the hybrid drive system, makes it pretty much the only offer in the segment.

~//Honda Vezel Availability and Pricing in Sri Lanka

The Vezel is new, and because of this almost all the cars in the market today are brand-new, zero-mileage models. Most of the vehicles in the Sri Lankan market tend to be high-spec Z-grade models (which leather interiors), and start at around Rs. 6million, and then go upwards depending on optional extras.

    ~//Overall Impression Honda Vezel

As a sporty-looking premium crossover car, the Vezel is the only option in the market in Sri Lanka right now. It looks stunning, is very fuel efficient, and would continue to turn heads wherever it goes. The Vezel in Sri Lanka is the best crossover that’s on sale in the market right now.
